okinawa-insider.com is a small, slow-built English travel guide to Okinawa written by someone who lives here. The goal is simple: write the Okinawa guide that a local would actually send to a friend, not a recycled aggregation of the same 10 tourist sites that show up on every other blog.
Why this site exists
When I started this site, I searched for honest English information about Okinawa as a long-time resident might describe it — and found mostly content written by people who hadn’t been here, or had spent one weekend and called it research. So I started writing the guides I wished existed: where Okinawans actually eat, which beaches we visit on weekends, why renting a car matters, what nobody warns you about typhoon season.
Who writes this site
This site is written by Daisuke. Born and raised in Japan, long-term Okinawa main-island resident. Day job is in school-age childcare; spare time is spent exploring the outer islands (Kouri, Izena, Yagaji) and visiting restaurants, beaches, and hotels with a notepad. Every article on this site is reviewed and edited by Daisuke personally before publication.

- NOT staffed by ChatGPT alone — articles are drafted with AI assistance for structure, but every fact, price, and recommendation is fact-checked and supplemented with first-hand experience.
