Methodology

This page explains how content is researched, written, fact-checked, and updated on okinawa-insider.com. Transparency about process is the only way to build trust online in 2026.

Research process

  1. Visit — Every guide is based on at least one in-person visit. Visits are dated and noted in the article (look for “On my [Month] [Year] visit” or “Last visited” stamps).
  2. Document — On-site, I record prices in yen, opening hours, parking notes, and conversations with staff or locals. Receipts are kept for cost-related articles.
  3. Cross-reference — Prices and logistics are cross-checked against multiple sources (official websites, government tourism data, Okinawa Convention & Visitors Bureau).
  4. Write — Articles are drafted with the assistance of large language model tools for structure and clarity, then heavily edited by Daisuke to add first-hand detail, remove generic phrasing, and verify every claim.
  5. Review — Final review checks for accuracy, completeness, and that every recommendation reflects what we would actually advise a friend.

Update cadence

Articles are reviewed and updated on this schedule:

  • Pricing-sensitive guides (Budget, accommodation, car rental): every 3 months
  • Seasonal guides (Cherry Blossoms, Rainy Season, Best Time to Visit): annually before the relevant season
  • Itineraries and where-to-go guides: every 6 months
  • Cultural and food guides: every 12 months unless new information surfaces

Every article displays its most recent updated date.

Sources we trust

  • Okinawa Prefectural Government (official statistics)
  • Okinawa Convention & Visitors Bureau
  • Japan National Tourism Organization
  • Naha Airport Authority
  • Direct conversations with hotel front desks, restaurant owners, and tour operators (often quoted in articles)
  • Government weather data (Japan Meteorological Agency)

Use of language model assistance — full disclosure

We use language model assistance for:

  • Initial article structure and outlining
  • Grammar and clarity editing
  • Image sourcing (most images are licensed from Unsplash with proper photographer credit)

We do NOT use such assistance to:

  • Fabricate experiences, prices, or recommendations
  • Generate fake quotes or testimonials
  • Replace human editorial judgment on what to publish
