What to expect

  • Reading speed: I read most messages within 24–48 hours.
  • Response speed: I aim to reply to actionable questions within 5 business days. I batch-process slower questions on weekends.
  • Spam policy: I block automated submissions ruthlessly. If you don’t hear back, your message may have been mistaken for spam — try again with a clearer subject line.

When I first started this site, I got hit hard by spam bots posing as travel agents. Now I’m careful about what makes it through, but real people always do.

Questions I can usually help with

  • Where to stay for your specific situation (military family, solo traveler, family with kids, etc.)
  • When to visit given your dates/budget
  • Specific itinerary feedback
  • Equipment recommendations (snorkel, camera, eSIM, rental car)
  • Off-the-tourist-path Okinawa tips

Last summer I helped a reader find a quiet guesthouse in Nakijin perfect for remote work — that’s the kind of puzzle I actually enjoy solving. I know neighborhoods, seasonal trade-offs, and which rental car companies won’t nickel-and-dime you.

Questions I can’t help with (sorry)

  • Visa or immigration questions — please consult the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs
  • Medical or legal advice
  • Hotel cancellations, flight rebooking, or refund disputes — contact the booking platform directly
  • “Sponsor my trip” requests (it’s a no, but I appreciate your boldness)

I respond to legitimate inquiries within 7 business days. I don’t respond to mass-blast outreach.
